Maa Annayya Bangaram Telugu Movie Review :
If you had to name one actor who is adept at crying and laughing at the same time, Rajasekhar would top the list. Someone has surely given him the compliment that he looks handsome while weeping, so this is another umpteenth project that is soaked with sentiment. After wife, parents, friendship, sister, this one “Maa Annayya Bangaram” deals with his bond with his six siblings, all of them males. Who ever said that men don’t cry at the drop the hat is absolutely wrong. Rajasekhar and his six brothers drench the scenes with mush and sentiment from frame one to the last and even transform the most hardcore of people in the film as a lovey dovey person who values relationships in the family.
Kamalini Mukherjee must have waited for a best film to land on her lap and in it’s absence must have selected this movie in which any woman could have done justice to the role. About the story, big brother Rajasekhar is constantly packing six biryanis, six jalebis and six Coke cans everytime he steps out of the house for his hungry brothers. He feeds them with junk because he is not married and when it dawns on him that he needs to get married, Jhansi, Kamalini’s sister lays one condition that makes his light coloured lens brighten up the screen.
Jayaprakash Reddy forces him to remain silent about his mammoth family and Rajasekhar keeps postponing the ‘revelation’. One fine day the lady of the house who values nuclear family walks out and walks in when she realizes that her hormones are hyperactive. The audience is given crap, the brothers give a promissory note to Jhansi that they will not step into the house and the duets follow resulting in Kamalini’s pregnancy. Rajasekhar drops a carton of eggs when his aunt announces his wife’s pregnancy in the market and the hero who needs to go to the extreme in showing emotions thinks of revealing the news first to his brothers.
The man who feeds, bathes, sleeps and dreams for his brothers cannot bear the separation. Ditto with his brothers. There is this funny incident, Rajasekhar goes to the temple to do puja for his brothers and leaves the prasadam on the temple wall. The latter after he leaves run for it, grab and eat it leaving you to wonder if they were starving or if it is a spurt of emotion. Jhansi is surprisingly striking in a mellowed yet firm role. Kamalini spares from villainous behaviour and sticks to a confused expression throughout the film..to love her hubby’s family or not to love till the neighbour says it’s okay to be huge hearted and happiness comes automatically when you consider your husband’s people as your own.
A shockingly archaic story that has no takers, the people involved in the film should realize that it is absolutely not normal for brothers to well up their eyes in tears and cry buckets everytime an actor has to say ‘annayya’ or ‘thammudu’. Jerky camera angles, silly songs in which lumps of snow is thrown at the heroine’s bottom and Rajasekhar showing his glistening teeth as if there is no tomorrow and putting on make-up only till his neck, while the rest of the body begs for attention..somethings never change. A criminal waste of time, money and energy.irector Jonnalagadda Srinu teams with Dr. Rajasekhar for ‘Maa Annaya Bangaram’ produced by Visakha Talkies’ Natti Kumar. Tipped to be a family drama, the movie is all about relationship values.
This family drama is written by Bhupathi Raja. ‘Maa Annaya Bangaram’ as the title says is a story for 7 brothers with Rajasekhar being the oldest. The six brothers are always cared by the oldest brother. Seemingly inspired by Amitabh Bachan’s ‘Satte pe Satta’, ‘Maa Annaya Bangaram’ is a story that talks about the usual sacrifices an older brother makes. The six brothers are new faces namely Aditya Om, Rohit, Rajkalyan, Yashwanth, Bharath, etc.
Kamalini Mukherjee plays the wife of Rajasekhar. She has a pivotal role to play along with Chalapathi Rao who is also playing an important role. Other character artists like Uttej, Pingpang, Brahmaji, LB Sriram, Shiva Parvathi, Jayalalitha, Radhakumari, and Ravi Kondalarao are part of this drama.
Technically the movie boasts of experienced technicians. D Prasad Babu is the director of photography and Gowtham Raju is the editor of the movie. The movie has few songs that have been shot in Switzerland and other European countries. Music is by SA Rajkumar with lyrics by Chandrabose.
‘Maa Annayya Bangaram’ is made for the fans of Dr. Rajshekar and is a complete family entertainer. Sivaji(Rajshekar) is the eldest son of a family, who loses his parents in his childhood. He has six younger brothers and the whole family burden to take care of them, falls on Sivaji. He loves his brothers very much and takes every little care about them.
Sivaji’s brothers are also in total love with their elder brother and worship him as their parents. His pampering makes his brothers a bit overdosed with love and the intense bonding is well captured in just 5 frames.
Sivaji’s uncle (jaya Prakash) is given the lead to arrange for the marriage of Sivaji. So, he looks for a bride, who is well educated and she is manju (kamalinee). Manju is having a bit secluded thinking and believes in small family- Happy family bonding.
Incidentally, a misunderstanding arises in between Sivaji and Manju, due to sivaji’s uncle lie. A deep rift is formed in the relationship and Manju’s dominating sister (Jhansi) adds fuel in the relationship to deepen the crisis.
Then the fight in between the urban culture and true traditional values is shown to the audiences with a heavy dose of sentiment, love and emotions.
Performances
Dr. Rajshekar is a senior actor and needs no elaboration, relating to his acting. He is perfect, with his expressions and acting skills in ‘Maa Annayya Bangaram’
Kamalinee is seen in a bit typical role in ‘Maa Annayya Bangaram’. Her glamour and acting skills will earn her some appreciations, from the film audiences.
Anchor Jhansi is seen in a negative shade role and this gives a good scope to display her acting skills in the movie.
Jay Prakash Reddy and other characters add life to the reel flow of ‘Maa Annayya Bangaram’
Music of the ‘Maa Annayya Bangaram’ is just a passé and will suit the story of the film.
The director Raja has taken an ancient script and has churned a movie of a couple of hour’s length. But nothing is impressive and innovative in the presentation.
On the whole, this movie is targeted towards a certain section of audiences and will live a life of a few days in the theatres.
